After a few weeks of his passing, it appears that Lemmy’s cause of death was prostate cancer and other heart failures, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ.
The copy of the death certificate lists “prostate cancer, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia” as the causes of his passing. Cardiac arrhythmia refers to an irregular heartbeat. Lemmy had been dealing with heart problems for the past few years cancelling shows across the globe, mainly due to his diabetes and a lung infection, leading many to believe they were the cause of his death but, as speculated by many. It was later revealed that Lemmy found out about his resilient cancer a few days before his passing and the doctors had given him only a few months left to live.
Many forms of tributes started happening right after his death, including the memorial at his favorite bar in Hollywood, the Rainbow Bar & Grill which ended up shutting down the Sunset Strip after considering the reach and popularity of the event.
Band’s manager Todd Singerman said Lemmy performed through his illness through the past few years in order to not let his fans down:
“To think of the balls it took to still play shows for the fans, to do the last show two weeks ago – and then drop? That’s like a Rocky story to me. Courage at its best. […] He was dying. He didn’t know it, but his body must have felt it. He had nothing left.”
