What a difference a few hours makes. Earlier today, Huntress vocalist Jill Janus released a since-deleted statement on the band’s Facebook page stating that they were done. “I’m packing it up,” she stated. It appeared to have taken many by surprise, including her band, and just recently, guitarist Blake Meahl took to the band’s page to state that they’re not breaking up and the band’s tour with Black label Society in December is still on. Here’s his statement:
Statement from Huntress guitarist Blake Meahl: Our vocalist Jill Janus posted an announcement last night that she was having difficulty dealing with devastating health issues. Four months ago she had major surgery to remove cancer from her uterus. She needs time to fully recover from her hysterectomy and to continue treatment for her mental health issues. Her bouts with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and disassociative identity disorder have been particularly difficult lately and are ultimately responsible for her unfounded statement last night.
We will resume touring in December when Huntress joins Black Label Society 12/26-12/31. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. Blake Meahl
So basically, Blake’s saying “sorry my schizophrenic singer said that. She was just being schizophrenic.” That can’t be an easy thing for anyone to deal with. It was extremely brave for Janus to open up about her mental health issues a few months ago, and that might ultimately be what keeps the band together. Without the public knowing what she’s going through, it would have been next to impossible to explain this away. Here’s hoping for the sake of Janus, her bandmates and Huntress fans that she gets the help she needs.
