menzaIt must have been awful to be at the Baked Potato on Saturday when former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza collapsed three songs into his set with Ohm. News of his death quickly spread around the metal community, and Dave Mustaine was one of the first people to mention it on social media. Later on Sunday, he wrote a touching tribute to his former drummer, ending it by stating “The Megadeth family take care of each other, and expect to hear soon about an initiative to help Nick’s children.” That, perhaps, is the saddest thing about his death, that he leaves behind a wife, Teri, and two sons.

J. Marshall Craig, Menza’s close friend and biographer, is serving as the Menza family’s representative. Yesterday, he reiterated that there would be a benefit show, and that memorial plans will be announced soon:

Given that Menza was beloved by so many, it can be assumed that the benefit show will bring out quite a few artists and musicians.
