As soon as Misfits announced their “classic” lineup would be reuniting for Riot Fest back in 2016, fans wondered when the original New Jersey punks would return back East. They then announced a pair of shows last year… in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It was a foregone conclusion that if the band were to play more shows that the East Coast would make sense, and then on Friday, Live Nation tweeted out a Misfits skull embedded in New Jersey, setting the internet rumor mill on fire:

Today, they made it official. Misfits’ first New Jersey show in 35 years willl take place on Saturday, May 19th at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ, just down the road from Lodi, where they emerged from in 1977. Suicidal Tendencies and Murphy’s Law will open. Tickets will go on sale this Friday (2/2).

The thing is that while the band have played four shows since reforming, they’ve all been great shows. While there’s certainly a ton of nostalgia involved, the band seem to genuinely enjoying themselves and playing with energy and enthusiasm. Throw in the fact that there are two legit ’80s punk/hardcore openers, and this is going to be a great night for everyone.
