a7x korn mayhemWe’re roughly five to six months away from when Mayhem Fest typically hits the road. So naturally rumors about who’ll be playing the touring festival start to heat up by this point. However, Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer may have just leaked this year’s co-headliners.

During a recent NAMM booth signing, The New American Media caught Shaffer not only saying Korn will once again play Mayhem Fest, but so will Avenged Sevenfold. “We’re doing the States. I believe we’re playing with Avenged Sevenfold on the Mayhem Festival,” Shaffer let slip while sharing Korn’s touring commitments for the year. This comes shortly after Shaffer hinted that Korn were planning to tour North America this summer as part of a “summer festival.” Korn last co-headlined Mayhem Fest in 2010, while Avenged Sevenfold have only appeared on one date of the tour during that same year (though have appeared on Mayhem’s sister tour Uproar numerous times).

Granted, an official announcement hasn’t been made yet (and likely won’t be till later next month), and things could easily change within a short time frame. However, Shaffer’s comment almost confirms that A7X and Korn will be co-headlining Mayhem Fest this (unless he’s spoken too soon). And given how both bands are still able to attract large audiences while on tour, A7X and Korn are solid picks for co-headliners.

Video of Shaffer letting the news slip can be seen below. Until an official announcement is made, expect more bands from the lineup to leak.
