Last night’s terrorist attack that took place outside an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK has the world on edge. That it would take place as a concert attended mostly by teen and tween girls that just wanted a fun night of music perhaps makes it worse. And while the concert industry is undoubtedly taking a look at security measures not just inside arenas, but outside them as well, Iron Maiden has vowed to continue their UK tour, which wraps up this week. Maiden broke the news in a series of tweets last night:
We are shocked by last night’s terrible events at the Manchester Arena. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected.

We can advise fans that our last three UK shows in Cardiff and at London’s O2 will proceed as planned.

Of course any extra means to ensure fan safety are being examined with the relevant authorities.

It’s encouraging that the band isn’t backing down due to one incident. Of course, there may be some that decide that now isn’t the time to go to a concert, which is completely understandable. Ariana Grande has canceled the rest of her world tour, which she has every right to do given what happened last night. But a single depraved act of terrorism won’t win out over live music, nor should it. The next rock concert scheduled for the Manchester Arena is KISS on May 30th. It’s not certain whether that show is still on.
