For those die-hard Metallica fans out there, it appears you should listen to their music via Spotify. Not only that, you should be careful as to which songs you want to hear. According to Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek, these metal legends use analytics on the streaming platform to create their setlist per city.
Quartz has reported that during a recent earnings call for the company Ek said the following:
“You have an artist like Metallica, who changes their setlist on a city-by-city basis just by looking at Spotify data to see, which the most popular songs happened to be in that city. We’ve never before been at a place in time where you could make as many informed decisions and understand your audience as well as we can do now as an artist.”
We aren’t entirely sure if this is true since a Metallica representative has not-yet-responded to this statement. However, it wouldn’t hurt to at least blast Metallica’s 1984 Ride The Lightning today since this classic album turns 34 today. Ironically, the group has shared this album via Apple Music:
