Megadeth has been hard at work on their upcoming 16th studio album, and now we have a new update on the release, as well as a tentative title.
During this past Saturday’s ‘Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp’ masterclass (recorded by an attendee and posted to Reddit), frontman Dave Mustaine revealed that the tentative title for the new album will be The Sick, The Dying And The Dead. However, he notes that fans shouldn’t necessarily get too attached to that name, saying, “We may change that, because there’s some other titles, and I usually change the titles four or five times before I settle on anything.”
Mustaine also plays a few seconds of something from the album at the recorder’s request, though as a recording of a Zoom call, the audio is crackly and hard to decipher. What you can hear gives the impression that the song is going to be heavy, fast and loud.
Back in December, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson told SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk’ that recording for the album was moving along at a decent clip. “Dirk [Verbeuren, drums] and I did our stuff back in May and June, and then Dave and Kiko [Loureiro, guitar] were laying guitars down, and then over to vocals, and et cetera, et cetera.”
According to Mustaine, the songs on the new album are going to be some of the band’s best. He told “The Five Count” radio show back in October that the album will “probably” be “one of the most ferocious records we’ve done since ‘Rust In Peace’.”
‘The Sick, The Dying And The Dead’ is the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Dystopia.’ It is the band’s first recording since Mustaine’s battle with throat cancer in 2019.
