Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner is currently working on the band’s second album since reforming in 2012. This time, however, he’s got some secret weapons in his arsenal – namely only using guitars owned by late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman. As detailed in the latest Guitar World, Wagner purchased four of the guitars directly from Hanneman’s widow Kathryn. He reached out to her after finding out that some of the guitars would be put up for auction with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors Project, a favorite charity of Jeff’s.
Wagner paid an undisclosed sum for the guitars, some of which are his favorites, like the “punk rock” Jackson pictured in the “War Ensemble” video and on the cover of Decade of Aggression. Wagner says that Kathryn said Jeff would have wanted the guitars to be used, not just sit in vault, and his thoughts will be honored, as Wagner hopes to use 100% of Hanneman’s guitars to record the new album. Maybe Slayer should have tried doing that.
