The Foo Fighters may not be exactly metal, nor may Them Crooked Vultures. But it’s no secret that Dave Grohl loves metal and hardcore. Not convinced by his Probot project or the recordings and performances he’s done with Lemmy, Slash and Tenacious D?? Well did you know that before his drumming stint in some Seattle grunge band (Nirvana? Whatever, not like they made a huge impact or anything), Grohl played in the DC hardcore group Scream. So he certainly has street cred.

Now Grohl gets to show off his love for hardcore further in a new Rolling Stone magazine series called “The Playlist Special,” where artists compile a playlist of their favorite band’s songs or best of a time period/genre. Grohl lists his top ten favorite songs from 80’s hardcore bands, and mentions bands like Bad Brains, Corrosion Of Conformity, D.R.I., Black Flag and many more. It’s no surprise that he’s such a huge fan given his experience, but it’s awesome that Grohl is giving a shout out to lesser know hardcore bands in Rolling Stone, arguably the most famous music magazine in the world. Give Grohl’s list a look and read what he says about each choice.
