Ok, so let’s face it… purple isn’t really that metal of a color. In fact, the only band that comes to mind that’s associated with the color is Deep Purple. With that said, most hard rock and metal bands would go on record saying that Deep Purple were a major influence to the genre. Don’t believe us? Just ask Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Label Society (all of whom recently contributed to Classic Rock’s Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head cover album).
[note: despite popular belief, Machine Head did not get their name from Deep Purple’s classic album of the same name, even if Bush might have gotten their terrible song from it]
