badbrains3) Bad Brains – Quickness

Another example of a classic band moving past it’s initial stripped down hardcore sound, much to the dismay of knuckle heads world wide. Yes, it does contain the song “Don’t Blow Bubbles”, an obvious homophobic and narrow minded view of a complex world, and that does make the album lose a few gnar points in my opinion. But with grooves this tight, I’ll still fly in the Soulcraft any day.

discharge-massacre_divine-front2. Discharge – Massacre Divine

In a sea of cookie cutter imitation dbeat bands, it would be a real breath of fresh air to see some true freaks take influence from this gem. In a funk metal style that lead singer Cal once described as “a natural progression”, this album is much more forward thinking than most Discharge fans give credit. “Sexplosion” might be the single most erotic jam of the groove punk genre. Get nasty.

suicidallaugh1) Suicidal Tendencies – How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can’t Even Smile Today

Personally, I feel this album is a rager from start to finish and perhaps Suicidal’s finest hour. Rocky George is a true demon on the axe. I am aware that this record does not contain “Institutionalized,” but I’ll pledge my allegiance to this 1988 riff fest any day.
