Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Phantom High vocalist Peril Erinyes as she’s been spending this time to rebuild and build some good habits.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Toronto started to go into quarantine the day after our last show on March 14th. It was a welcomed vacation at first. We lead such busy schedules that we rarely have the time to do the things we all know we should be doing. We forge out time needed for writing, recording, producing and even practicing from the time most people use to stay sane. Some of us were guilty of not cooking and grabbing fast food on the way to rehearsal or a gig, or not staying in shape. Quarantine gave us the time to regroup and build some good habits for our physical and mental health. We also took time to assess how we wanted to present ourselves and set goals to further our reach outside Toronto.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I’m digging the latest Cane Hill album. Their single Power of the High is fantastic. We saw these guys open for Of Mice & Men in 2018 and I’ve been a fan ever since. This album captures the raw energy you see from their live performance. In this drought of concerts because of Covid, it throws me into that energy I crave.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Breakfast Cookies! They are made with oats, almond butter, walnuts and blueberries. I use a bit of Maple syrup, the real stuff, for a bit of sweetening. It’s like a hearty bowl of oatmeal in cookie form. It’s a much better choice of food on the go than running through a drive thru.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Joey’s been playing the new Borderlands 3 DLC grinding for god-roll weapons and obsessively watching YouTube drum videos and Star Wars lore videos. Seven’s been playing Mario Kart with a group of friends and musicians here in Toronto and New York. They sign in every Monday since the quarantine started. They have a few drinks, chat and yell at each other while they race. It gets pretty wild.

We are all huge Star Wars fans and have watched The Mandalorian and have since rewatched everything to do with Star Wars. We can’t get enough of The Clone Wars. That’s probably the band’s favourite go to right now.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

I find starting your day off productive and finishing with something you enjoy is the way to go. That helps me from getting restless. Exercising is so helpful and rewarding. It only sucks for 20 minutes or so, but the positive mental effects last so much longer than the physical suck. Also, make sure you get a laugh in once in a while. There are so many amazing stand up comedians on Netflix to let loose to. Taylor Tomlinson and Ronny Chieng recently had us in stitches. Get a laugh whenever you can.
