Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s pandemic column during the ongoing uncertainty behind COVID-19. We ask artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy during these unprecedented times. We caught up with Hyperia guitarist Colin Ryley as he’s been spending this time writing their new album, Silhouettes of Horror.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

We have written and recorded our new album “Silhouettes Of Horror” which will be released March 18, 2022. Otherwise, I have been practicing guitar daily and listening to lots of new music. The band pretty much all lives together so we have been jamming as much as we can and polishing our set for when the world finally opens up again.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Lately, I’ve been listening to the new Aephanemer, Obscura, Verikalpa, and Hypocrisy. I’m always finding new and cool playlists on Spotify to check out but can’t think of any particular ones off the top of my head!

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?

Haha, nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of. I suppose there’s been more time to figure out new recipes. I made a Lobster Curry and Prawn Risotto over the past few months which were firsts for me.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I’ve really enjoyed shows like Cobra Kai, Witcher and movies such as Dune and the new James Bond film. I also played through the revisited Tony Hawk 1 & 2 games as well as Diablo 3.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Take it easy and enjoy what will most likely be the only time in your life where you have nothing at all to do. Take up a new hobby or put more time into an old one! Listen to new music, play an instrument or try to do something productive if you’re feeling like it.
