Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s pandemic column during the ongoing uncertainty behind COVID-19. We ask artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy during these unprecedented times. We caught up with Caveat’s Joe Sikorski as he’s been spending this time discovering his love for cinema.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

During the last several months, I’ve been discovering my love of the cinema. When I say cinema, I really mean rolling and smoking copious amounts of cannabis to cope with the cabin fever and dozing off in front of Netflix. I think many readers can identify with it. I’ve also been reading a lot of technical network certification manuals too. I have been known to play guitar and record the odd album or two in the last year as well.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Been a big fan of what I consider progressive Metal bands like Haken, Vola, Caligula’s Horse, Leprous, as well as the heavier bands like Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation, Hour of Penance. Being meaning to go back and dig up the power metal stuff more recently list Lost Horizon as well as one of my favorites going back a while Symphony X.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?

I have been working on mastering the “Art of Eat”. My wife has been making incredible strides in the realms of soups and slow cooker meals recently, and breads prior to that. We have been enjoying her creativity in the kitchen as a result. While I am good at putting together a decent breakfast, she has a lock on everything else in the kitchen.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I just finished rewatching the extended versions of Lord of Rings and working my way through The Hobbit movies again. Netflix shows like the Witcher were great, and more recently the Wheel of Time series has been pretty good too. Next up: Dune!

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Learn to grow cannabis. It requires attention, time, and effort. Just like any relationship you want to cultivate, it gives you something in return, and you get a sense of accomplishment. Cannabis not legal where you are, then change the word “cannabis” to “yourself.”
