Metal By Numbers 12/11: The Charts Show a Bit of Common Courtesy

Posted by on December 11, 2013

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

I could talk about the elephant in the room in that we, unfortunately, had to skip over Metal By Numbers last week. But I’d rather talk records, specifically how the Metal Insider staff has been posting their top 10’s of the year, myself included. And wouldn’t you know it, some of our picks are on the charts below! Check and see if your favorite records are listed here and then tell us about them.

Notable Debuts:

A Day To Remember, Common Courtesy (Self-Released) #40, 12,875

This is A Day to Remember’s technical debut on the charts. The album sold 92,000 last week to start. Pretty amazing start for the band, who had to get a court to order that the album could be released after a battle with Victory Records.

Rhapsody of Fire, Dark Wings of Steel (AFM) 540 sold

The band’s tenth album is its first without guitarist Luca Turilli.

Black Flag, What the… (SST) 400 sold

The album with the awful cover is finally out. So is the singer.

Notable Sales:

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 2 (Prospect Park) #35, 13,575 sold

This dropped 43% this week, but considering the band has two albums on the charts I’m sure they’re fine.

Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #70, 6,550 sold

At week 15, this is just under 350,000 sold. Also, the band has an animated series coming out.

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #97, 6,425 sold

A drop of 46%, but is just under 310,000 sold in total. The two albums combine could well be at gold (500,000)  by Christmas.

Linkin Park, Recharged (Warner Bros.) #146, 4,200 sold

This might need to recharge after a 45% drop.

Korn, The Paradigm Shift (Prospect Park) #158, 3,725 sold

A shift to a small 5% boost.

Pierce The Veil, Collide With The Sky (Fearless) #168, 3,450 sold

This hopped back on the charts last week at #54, then dropped 77%.

Skillet, Rise (Atlantic), #170, 3,375 sold

This now over 190,000 sold.

Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (Universal/Republic) #178, 2,150 sold

These gentlemen got bumped up last week from #200 to #150.

Black Sabbath, 13 (Universal) #194, 2,825 sold

This reappeared last week as well. Also, we have some thoughts about their recent Grammy nomination.

Queens of the Stone Age …Like Clockwork (Matador) #196, 2,800 sold

This pops up at the bottom of the charts. Grammy bump? Perhaps.

Deicide, In The Minds of Evil (Century Media) 1,200 sold

The death metal vets debuted last week and have sold over 3,900 in total thus far.

Deafheaven, Sunbather (Deathwish) 280 sold

The much discussed album gains a boost of 109%.

Gemini Syndrome, Lux (Warner Bros.) 475 sold

A slight boost of 9% this week.

Righteous Vendetta, The Fire Inside (EBM) 440 sold

This is just under 3,000 sold.

Affiance, The Campaign (Ingrooves)

It’s been a whole year since this album came out and is sitting at just under 11,000 sold.

Fit For A King, Creation/Destruction (Solid State) 340 sold

This dropped by 79% after selling 1,600 copies last week.

Scar The Martyr, Scar The Martyr (Roadrunner) 340 sold

A boost of 9%.

Kill Devil Hill, Revolution Rise (Century Media) 320 sold

A boost of 32%  this week.

Our Last Night, Oak Island EP (Self-Released) 310 sold

A 20% drop.

Toxic Holocaust, Chemistry of Consciousness (Relapse) 310 sold

This continues to get small boosts of 4%.

Living Sacrifice, Ghost Thief (Solid State) 300 sold

A drop of 10% isn’t really a steal.

Fates Warning, Darkness In a Different Light (Inside Out) 340 sold

A 17% boost sheds a bit of light.

Epica, Retrospect (Nuclear Blast) 290 sold

This live album debuted last week with just under 600 sold.

Thy Art Is Murder, Hate (Nuclear Blast) 280 sold

You can’t hate a 61% boost.

Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 270 sold

This is now just under 40,000 sold

Gorguts, Colored Sands (Season of Mist) 260 sold

A whopping 102% boost. Year-end list bump? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Eyes Set To Kill, Masks (Century Media) 250 sold

Sales (not quite) set to kill.
