It’s not everyday you get a record with a pop oriented vocalist singing over chunky industrial metal riffs, but if bands like BABYMETAL have proven anything it’s that there’s an audience for a melding of the two genres. It’s probably not pop enough for Top 40 radio and it might not be brutal enough for some metalheads, but there’s always a niche, and right now that niche is big enough to propel Poppy to the top 10, making this the first big metal debut not only of 2020, but of the new decade.
