New York’s OATH have only been around for about a year, but they’ve made some real waves in that time. I’ve seen them both crush the main stage at New England Metal and Hardcore, as well as open up for Darkest Hour since this spring, and their brand of old-school metalcore (in the really traditional, literal sense – the hardcore influence is more prevalent despite them being ostensibly metal) is stripped down and hard-hitting. There’s a little Shadows Fall in here, maybe a little God Forbid, the hooks aren’t too sugary but the riffs aren’t impenetrable either.
Check out the video for “Sorrow Society” below; all of OATH’s live material impressed me with its energy, but the hook of this song was immediately stuck in my head and hasn’t dislodged since the first time I saw them, so it’s a great choice of single. This is one of only two songs they’ve released, but the material on their upcoming EP that we’ve seen them play won’t disappoint either. Keep an eye on these guys!
