It’s been a bit of downer since news of Early Graves vocalist Mahk Daniels’ death in a van accident broke yesterday. That’s why when I first heard about instrumental trio Russian Circles’ van crashing, I instantly got scared. Luckily, though, no one was harmed in the van accident that took place as the band was en route to their show in Baton Rouge this past weekend. Unfortunately, the band’s van (which they had just bought three days earlier from Pelican) and trailer, as well as drummer Dave Turncrantz’s vintage Gretsch drum kit, were totaled and the band was forced to miss several shows on their current tour with Boris.
“Every bit hurts. This kind of stuff happens all the time, and it’s completely out of the control of bands, but it really affects their livelihood. [Russian Circles] have insurance, but that doesn’t cover hotel rooms while you’re stuck, that new and more expensive van, the lost days of the tour, the merch you didn’t sell on those dates or the cost of the drum kit, and even the insurance money takes awhile to come. They’re not going to get it tomorrow, and they need it tomorrow,” manager Cathy Pellow explained to AVClub.com.
As much as this sucks for the band, we’re just thankful that nobody was harmed and everyone (besides the drum kit) is safe. If you’re looking to help the band out, you can send a donation via Paypal to russiancircles@sargenthouse.com. Meanwhile, They’re rejoining the tour in Washington D.C. tonight, so if you’re there, buy some merch from them!
