Last February, we learned that the movie adaptation of Rock Of Ages had snagged Tom Cruise to play arrogant yet charming rock star Stacee Jaxx. And now the film has added another big name to the cast: Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The Oscar and Tony winning actress will be playing a character that doesn’t actually appear in the original Broadway musical, which uses 80’s glam rock classics. Director Adam Shankman (of Hairspray fame) explained the new character as “if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child. She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock ’n’ roll in the great city of Los Angeles.” Anyone else have a bad feeling that this means Zeta-Jones will be singing a Stryper song?
Zeta-Jones and Cruise join a cast that also includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti and more.
