When christian metal band Stryper released their last album, No More Hell To Pay, it surprised many by not only debuting in the top 40, but also by being a pretty solid return to form for the band, who mined gold in the ’80s. Now the band have announced their ninth album, Fallen, due out on October 16th on Frontiers Records. The title track, which the band debuted today, is about Lucifer getting booted from heaven and becoming Satan, which is probably also the narrative behind many a black metal album as well. Here’s what singer/guitarist/album producer Michael Sweet says about the song:

“Fallen is about Lucifer before he became Satan. It’s the story of how he got kicked out of Heaven. He tried to overthrow God and take over,” describes Michael Sweet. “The song talks about how beautiful he was. When he walked, there was music. He was the angel of worship and this incredibly powerful and beautiful being.”

The album cover, which depicts Lucifer getting his ass kicked out of heaven, is the most literal album cover ever, and it also looks similar to their most popular album To Hell with the Devil. Musically, the midtempo song is right in the Stryper wheelhouse, and aside from updated production, could have come out at pretty much during any era of the band. If you pre-order the album via Amazon or iTunes, you’ll get the song instantly.
