Mastodon recently returned from Europe after playing in some festivals over there and were planning to return with a headlining tour this August but the band have cancel all their dates in Europe and their appearance at Heavy MTL due to what a press release calls “personal family matters.”The band will continue their plans to tour in Latin America late September and have postponed their appearance in Iceland that was to have taken place on September 5th to December 5th.
It’s unfortunate that family matters have led to the band having to take some time off. While not being specific about who in particular, the band’s last album Once More ‘Round the Sun, was inspired by the deaths of some of their friends. 2009’s Crack the Skye was written about drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor’s sister, who committed suicide at the age of 14. Here’s hoping that the time off recharges the band and that whatever personal family matters the band’s taking time off for are resolved.
