clutch_scfw_albumcover1The more metal site-savvy of you have already picked up on the fact that Metal Insider faves Clutch are streaming a few new songs from their forthcoming album Strange Cousins From the West online. Metal Sucks readers can check out the lead single “50,000 Unstoppable Watts”, while the mighty “Abraham Lincoln” is currently being featured on Ultimate Guitar

With the irresistible chorus of “Anthrax, ham radio, and liquor,” one might think “Unstoppable Watts” is about the band’s upcoming UK show with Anthrax for the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. However, drummer Jean-Paul Gaster tells Metal Insider that’s not the case:

I live close to Fort Dietrich, which is one of the US Army’s facilities for chemical and biological weapons. I think maybe that provided the inspirations. There’s supposedly a building there that’s been bricked off since the ‘80s. There was supposed to have been some sort of anthrax breakout, and rather than keep the building serviceable, they just bricked up all the windows, locked the doors, and that’s the legend of the Anthrax house in Frederick.

Strange Cousins From the West is out on the band’s own label, Weathermaker Music, on July 7.

The band is currently touring with Wino and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and will head out on tour with Baroness and Lionize in July. Hit the jump for dates.
