The book adaptation film for Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind’s Lords of Chaos finally has a director and what better choice than former Bathory drummer, proud owner of his own church and video/film director Jonas Akerlund? The film will be produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free London, RSA London, and VICE which plan to release for potential buyers in Cannes.
Rory Culkin (Scream 4, Signs) and Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class, Byzantium) are confirmed for leading roles in the film with further cast members to be announced shortly. Lords of Chaos focuses on the real events involving members of the 80’s black metal scene in Scandinavia and will follow the story of 17-year-old Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, guitarist and co-founder of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem during the upbringing of the genre, which led to a chain of events involving violence, arson and murder, which now takes part of Norway’s history.
While Akerlund is known for directing music videos for renown artists like Paul McCartney and U2, considering the work he did for Prodigy’s “Smack my Bitch Up”, which displays his unique style, we can just expect this project will be handled the way it should be.
