The Magic Stick rock club in Detroit, MI has hosted bands like Sick of it All, Whitechapel, Code Orange, and Tombs in recent months, but will soon switch formats and start booking DJs and electronic music. “The rock and roll market is saturated,” said Majestic Complex owner Dave Zainea, “it’s time to change.”

After years of mounting losses, Zainea told the Detroit Free Press that he had to make the move.

“It broke my heart to make this decision. Financially, I had no choice but to do it. I’m sure I’ll hear a lot of complaints. But when I’m confronted with the payroll every two weeks, it’s my obligation. This is a gamble, but I think it’s going to work.”

The Majestic Cafe and the Majestic Theatre will continue to host live music, but the Theater will soon go from a 1,000 capacity room to 400, and with a smaller stage.
