michaelsFans of Poison frontman Bret Michaels might have noticed that he had to postpone a few shows in the past week. While no reason had been given at the time, it turns out that he was in the hospital, and not just one hospital, but six over the past few weeks. In a lengthy post on Michaels’ website, his guitarist Pete Evick states that Michaels had to have surgery on his kidneys. When that happened, he had to postpone a show in Champaign, IL. He had two stents put in his body, and played a show in Memphis without incident. The following night in Knoxville, he played again, and it didn’t go as well. Just for Pete to say “I can’t explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on the bus after the show” should give you an idea of  how bad things were. That led him to postpone the Champaign show once again.

Michaels has had a string of awful health issues in the past few years, from an emergency appendectomy to a brain hemmorhage. Also in 2010, he was admitted to a hospital for having a hole in his heart. According to his guitarist, though, Michaels is pressing on and has no plans to postpone or reschedule any more shows for the rest of the year. He’s scheduled to play in Florida this weekend. Read the whole post and it will give you an idea of how hard Michaels works. However, it seems like he might be playing through a lot of pain, and he should probably be seeking more medical attention than he is audience attention.
