Metal Insider contributor Anthony Maisano is listening to a different metal album that was released on that day every day this year.
This was the bands second to last album before they took a near 10-year hiatus from studio albums. This album follows well with what I’d expect from a Morbid Angel album. It has a solid number of riffs, powerful vocals, and interesting songwriting. My favorite part about this album was that the tracks were pretty unique. All of them had something different to offer. It wasn’t an album that was just 10 songs with the same patterns and beats. The riffs were good, and the songs had variety to them. I couldn’t ask for much more in an album to, at least, make it an enjoyable listen.
There were a good chunk of riffs on this album that went on a bit too long for my taste. There were a few riffs that I didn’t think were so good that they deserved going as long as they did in some spots. Other than that, although I haven’t listened to their whole discography, I can’t imagine this being the band’s best album. It was certainly enjoyable, but not a ‘wow’ level of enjoyable, for me. The snare sound is also a bit too fake for my taste.
Favorite Tracks: “At One with Nothing,” “Ageless, Still I Am,” “He Who Sleeps.”
This was another album that was just enjoyable pretty much all around. It’s another case of an album that didn’t quite blow my mind, but didn’t need to for me to enjoy listening to it. The good riffs, and overall great track variety made this album interesting. Once again, I doubt this could be Morbid Angel’s best album, though, but it’s still one I’d recommend. If you like Morbid Angel or more straightforward death metal, check this one out!
