For those of you around during the early ’90s, Downset was inescapable. A band that mixed hardcore influences with metal and some rap, they were like a more hardcore Rage Against the Machine. For their first album in 10 years, the band have chosen to debut the video for the title track to “One Blood” via MySpace, which is kind of fitting. If you’re familiar with their biggest song, “Anger,” you’ll be happy to hear that “One Blood” starts out with Ray Oropeza shouting the title of the song repeatedly. Here’s what guitarist Brian Ares Schwager says about the video:
“Doing the ‘One Blood’ video was putting a big breathe of fresh air into the lungs of Downset,” states guitarist Brian Ares Schwager. “We wanted to embrace our Hardcore roots, are Hip-Hop roots, are Graffiti roots and are Los Angeles roots, as well as unite many of are of closest friends and family for a ‘One Blood’ debut show and reunion. The day of the shoot was a blast and working with Digital Iris Productions was a great experience capturing ‘One Blood’ on video.”
The band recently wrapped up a short tour, and will likely be back soon. We saw them in Queens on Saturday and played a fun word association game with them. Stay tuned for an exclusive interview with the band coming very soon.
