Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

You had to figure we were going to have a lot of debuts on here what with Record Store Day and all that. Even without it, there was still a lot lined up in terms of new releases. And with said releases, we’ve relearned lessons that prove true time and time again, like how crowdfunding can pay off (Sevendust), how any press is good press (Emmure), and that Thomas Gabriel Fischer still rules. But you knew that, didn’t you?

The band’s new acoustic album takes the top spot for this week’s metal debuts.

 

Emmure, Eternal Enemies (Victory) #55, 6,475 sold

Even after some controversy, the album manages to be the band’s highest charting album to date.

 

Triptykon, Melana Chasmata (Century Media) #141, 2,950 sold

Thomas Gabriel Fischer returns with Triptykon’s second album, which our own Chip McCabe highly recommends.

 

Kyng, Burn The Serum (Razor & Tie) #180, 2,300 sold

Kyng get a solid debut on the charts with their second album.

 

I Declare War, We Are Violent People By Nature (Artery) 1,625 sold

The band’s fifth album makes its way to the charts.

 

The Birds of Satan, The Birds of Satan (Shanabelle) 1,475 sold

The Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) led group gets its debut.

 

Pissed Jeans, The Very Best of Sub Pop 2009-2013: Live at the BBC (Subpop) 975 sold

This 12″ EP was a Record Store Day special, so we unfortunately don’t have a link for you to buy it from.

 

Cult Leader, Nothing For Us Here (Deathwish Inc.) 640 sold

Cult Leader features three members of Gaza, who broke up last year.

 

Gamma Ray, Empire of the Undead (Eagle Rock) 580 sold

The German power metallers are back with album number eleven.

 

Anubis Gate, Horizons (Nightmare) 440 sold

The Danish prog/power band puts out its sixth album.

 

The Oath, The Oath (Rise Above) 400 sold

Katatonia, Kocytean (Peaceville) 320 sold

Another Record Store Day 12″ EP release, this time from Katatonia.

 

Notable Sales:

This manages to keep sales up even with a 33% drop.

 

Black Label Society, Catacombs of the Black Vatican (eOne) #45, 7,775 sold

The band sticks to the top 50 after a 70% drop.

 

Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #81, 4,350 sold

Another boost this week of 15%.

 

The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #87, 4,075 sold

This doesn’t get too reckless with a 4% drop.

 

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 2 (Prospect Park) #95, 3,825 sold

A small 9% boost.

 

Various Artists, Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life (Rhino) #104, 3,600 sold

This is a great tribute album, but it missed out on one particularly good cover.

 

Memphis May Fire, Unconditional (Rise) #129, 3,075 sold

The tiniest boost of 1%. Does that get you fired up?

 

Of Mice & Men, Restoring Force (Rise) #136, 3,000 sold

A healthy boost of 45% puts this just below the 100,000 mark.

 

Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #162, 2,500 sold

A boost of 36% brings this above the horizon.

 

Skillet, Rise (Atlantic) #164, 2,475 sold

This rises up with a 28% boost.

 

Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (Universal/Republic) #182, 2,275 sold

A 3% isn’t so shady.

 

Lacuna Coil, Broken Crown Halo (Century Media) #184, 2,225 sold

A drop of 42%.

 

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #188, 2,175 sold

Could this album be near the end of its run? It’s still managing with a boost of 7%

 

OFF!, Wasted Years (Vive) #199, 2,075 sold

This is knocked off with a 54% drop.

 

Delain, The Human Contradiction (Napalm) 750 sold

A 60% drop.

 

For The Fallen Dreams, Heavy Hearts (Rise) 640 sold

With a heavy heart, we report that this has fallen by 74% (see what we did there?).

 

Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 540 sold

A baby-sized boost of 3%.

 

Deafheaven, Sunbather (Deathwish) 510 sold

A big boost of 61% brings this over 30,000 sold.

 

Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 450 sold

A 28% boost is the jewel in the crown.

 

Sonata Arctica, Pariah’s Child (Nuclear Blast) 410 sold

Has the band ever covered “Moonlight Sonata”? And if not, why haven’t they done so and called it “Moonlight Sonata Arctica”?

 

Gemini Syndrome, Lux (Warner Bros.) 400 sold

This continues to steadily sell.
