Just a few weeks ago, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno opened up to Rolling Stone about the next Deftones album. In short, he said “don’t hold your breath for anything new this year,” stating that the band wasn’t going to get together to write the band’s 8th album until early 2015. What a difference a few weeks makes. While in Australia for the Soundwave Festival where Crosses (†††) played, Moreno gave an interview to Soundwave TV, stating that the band are already at work on the next album, and he planned on meeting up with them this week. I haven’t personally started, but the other guys started last week. I’m excited to see what they’ve done so far and I’m going to check in with them next week. When we make records, we don’t plan out the records we’re going to make, we never have. We react to each other. One guy starts playing something, and the other guy reacts to it, and the other guy reacts to it, and the next thing you know, we have a song. I always think that’s the best way to write music… we don’t have a game plan as far as what kind of record or what it’s supposed to sound like. As long as it’s good. As long as we’re happy and feeling it, what we’re doing, it’s worked for us in the past.
