Right now, downtown Austin is bracing itself for the calm before the storm. In just four days (7), annual music, interactive and film mega-convention South by SouthWest (SXSW) will begin, and won’t let up until the following Sunday (16). Spring break for the music industry, place where bands go to get signed, or place where Soundgarden will play Superunknown in its entirety, there’s pretty much something for everyone. With literally thousands of bands showcasing, there’s always a solid metal component as part of the convention. And while some parties and showcases have already been announced, there’s tons more, some of which probably haven’t even been announced yet. So with that in mind, here’s what to expect from a metal standpoint for showcases, day parties, panels and unofficial parties. This will continue to be updated as we hear about more things happening, so consider this your unofficial guide to all things heavy in Austin.
