After releasing their twelfth album back in September, Dream Theater are finally heading out on tour to support it. But it looks like Boston fans will be getting an extra special performance when the band make a stop in Boston on Tuesday, March 25. The band has announced that they have invited ensembles from Berklee College of Music to join them on stage at the show, which will be recorded and eventually released. The two ensembles that will be joining the band are the Berklee World Strings and the Berklee Concert Choir during the second half of the set.
As many fans know, John Petrucci, John Myung, and former drummer Mike Portnoy formed Dream Theater when they attended Berklee. What’s more, Mike Mangini is a former faculty member of the school, so for most of the band members, this will be quite the homecoming. It’s a pretty cool idea that ought to make for a good live album. Hopefully there are a number of Dream Theater fans among the ensembles, or at least a few people who’ll decide to pick up an album or two before the show if they’ve never heard the band before.
