Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
You’ve probably had enough about people talking about the weather, so I won’t say anything else about it other than the picture on the right is actually what I look like right now. What with it only being the 8th of January, we’ve still got nothing in the way of metal debuts. Seriously, there isn’t even some random metalcore with a debut of 300 sold that I can throw up here and have everyone wonder “Who the hell is this and why isn’t *insert better known band name* on the charts?” Soon we’ll have more happening, but don’t give us the cold shoulder (sorry, I lied). And with the holidays over and people having used up their iTunes and Amazon gift cards, there are plenty of double digit declines across the board. Take a look to see what is still around, what’s gone, and what has popped back onto the charts.
Notable Sales:
Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 2 (Prospect Park) #40, 8,800 sold
This got on the wrong side of a 54% drop
A Day To Remember, Common Courtesy (Self-Released) #36, 7,725
Even with a 54% drop, this manages to pass the 150,000 mark.
Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #56, 5,550 sold
Well, 54% seems to be the magic number since that’s how far this dropped, currently standing at over 393,000 sold.
Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #88, 4,900 sold
Your weekly update on the combined sales for the two FFDP albums is over 510,000 sold.
Skillet, Rise (Atlantic), #104, 4,050 sold
This rose up a few spots but ultimately dropped 47% in sales.
Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #112, 3,575 sold
A 52% drop, but the album isn’t far off from the 150,000 mark. Plus, sales will probably boost when the band goes on tour in less than a month.
Pierce The Veil, Collide With The Sky (Fearless) #114, 3,550 sold
Another 54% drop. Guess that’s the lucky number this week. Or unlucky rather.
Linkin Park, Recharged (Warner Bros.) #139, 2,900 sold
At week ten this is just under 85,000 sold.
Queens of the Stone Age …Like Clockwork (Matador) #153, 2,600 sold
This stays at the same chart position as last week even with a 49% drop. The album has sold over 217,000 thus far.
Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (Universal/Republic) #157, 2,500 sold
This has sold over 170,000 in total.
Asking Alexandria, From Death To Destiny (Sumerian) #166, 2,300 sold
This probably wasn’t asking for a 45% drop.
Korn, The Paradigm Shift (Prospect Park) #177, 1,950 sold
A 57% drop this week.
Sleeping With Sirens, Feel (Rise) #186, 1,950 sold
Not really feeling a 58% drop.
In This Moment, Blood (Century Media) #187, 1,950 sold
This has been off the charts for a while and has now made a return thanks to the Hellpop tour. It’s over 200,000 sold, which is huge for them.
Nine Inch Nails, Hesitation Marks (Columbia) #188, 1,950 sold
This is back on the charts, perhaps due to the amazing Vevo concert posted, and has passed the 200,000 sold mark.
Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 1,075 sold
This is sure to break the 50,000 mark in a week.
Deafheaven, Sunbather (Deathwish) 1,075 sold
The end-of-year attention hasn’t quite worn off for this one yet.
After The Burial, Wolves Within (Sumerian) 930 sold
A steep 60% drop buries this one.
Our Last Night, Oak Island EP (Self-Released) 390 sold
It might be this album’s last night on the charts if it keeps dropping.
Erra, Augment (Tragic Hero) 380 sold
A 59% boost brings this one back from the grave.
Gemini Syndrome, Lux (Warner Bros.) 360 sold
A 28% drop this week.
Deicide, In The Minds of Evil (Century Media) 340 sold
A 47% drop is quite evil.
Thy Art Is Murder, Hate (Nuclear Blast) 650 sold
Don’t you hate 47% drops?
Gorguts, Colored Sands (Season of Mist) 310 sold
Sales may pick up more again when the Decibel Magazine tour starts up in March.
Scar The Martyr, Scar The Martyr (Roadrunner) 310 sold
This has now sold over 10,000, which makes it Joey Jordison’s best selling release for a band he’s currently in.
Russian Circles, Memorial (Sargent House) 300 sold
The band’s tour in February could have this album running circles around the charts.
Living Sacrifice, Ghost Thief (Solid State) 290 sold
I tend to misread the word “sacrifice” as “Scarface”, which might actually make for a better band name.
Butcher Babies, Goliath (Century Media) 280 sold
This peeks up on the charts and will probably continue to do so also because of the Hellpop tour.
Eyes Set To Kill, Masks (Century Media) 280 sold
A tiny boost of 3%.
Týr, Valkyrja (Metal Blade) 260 sold
A 30% drop this week.
Get Scared, Everyone’s Out To Get Me (Fearless) #137, 520 sold
Scared of a 51% drop?
Kill Devil Hill, Revolution Rise (Century Media) 250 sold
This doesn’t rise much with a 27% drop (I’ve used that joke too many times).
Fates Warning, Darkness In a Different Light (Inside Out) 250 sold
If this continues to sell at this pace, the record will meet the 10,000 mark in about a month.
The Amity Affliction, Chasing Ghosts (Roadrunner) 240 sold
These Aussies continue to chase sales.
