It’s been years since Chicago death metal band Broken Hope released an album. 14 of them, to be exact, since 1999’s Grotesque Blessings was released, and 11 since they disbanded. In 2007, the band met and discussed a reunion, which actually came to fruition in 2012. Now the band’s sixth album, Omen of Disease, will be come out October 1, and the band have released a song from the album, “Ghastly.”
From the sound of the song, the band pick up where they left off – which is to say this is brutal, guttural, uncompromising death metal. In fact, this could have just as easily come out in the ’90s. In under three minutes, the song is in and out, with original members guitarist Jeremy Wagner and bassist Shaun Glass (yes, the same Shaun Glass that played in Soil and Dirge Within) joining with former Gorgasm vocalist Damian Leski to make maximum impact in minimal time.
“Ghastly” is available as a free download on Century Media’s website.
