Over the weekend, singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth was diagnosed with what’s referred to as “walking pneumonia.” The illness forced Overkill to sit out of a few shows of The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour with Testament Flotsam & Jetsam and 4ARM, including Friday night’s stop in Huntington, NY. Now it appears that Blitz’s current condition has forced Overkill to pull out of the tour completely.
Overkill announced that they have officially dropped off the tour via the following statement:
“Overkill regretfully announce that we can no longer continue on the Testament North American tour. Blitz’s condition has gotten slightly worse and he needs some time to get back to 100%. We would like to thank Testament for a great tour and look forward to everyone back on the road soon.”
According to Horns Up Rocks!, Blitz did perform during the tour’s stop in Worcester, MA Saturday night. However, he supposedly pushed himself too hard and needs more time to recover. While it’s certainly a bummer that Overkill has dropped off this previously thrash-tastic tour, our main hope is that Blitz gets better soon.
In case you’re still bummed that you missed seeing Testament and Overkill on the same stage this year, check out photos from the tour’s stop in NYC our own Derek Soto took.
