Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

If you’re one of the people who for some reason still cares about Matchbox 20, then you probably didn’t notice that it’s been a slow week in terms chart debuts for metal. Propaghandi is really much more of a punk band than a metal one, but we’ll let them in on a technicality. Actually, the real metal top seller is a 30 year-old album. But we’ll take that that over Rob Thomas and friends.

Notable Debuts

Judas Priest, Screaming for Vengeance 30th Anniversary Edition (Legacy) 3,800 sold
Not a bad first week for a 30 year-old album that any Priest fan worth their salt already has. Then again, maybe most of the people thought they were buying a t-shirt.

Propagandhi, Failed States (Epitaph) #95, 3,500 sold
With album number six, Canadian punk rock band continue to deliver its brand of metal with radical left wing themes. The band will be touring with Comeback Kid in the U.S. come October.

Tarja Turunen, Act 1 (Eagle Rock) 390 sold
With sales like this, there might not be an Act II.

Notable Sales

In This Moment, Blood (Century Media) #61, 5,200 sold
At this moment, the band are holding steady.

Rush, Clockwork Angels (Roadrunner) #85, 3,900 sold
Having gotten started with their Fall U.S. tour, it should come as no surprise to see the Canadian trio receiving a boost in sales.

Shinedown, Amaryllis (Atlantic) #87, 3,800 sold
A 20% decrease, but the Floridians stick around with less than 3 weeks to go in the Uproar Festival Tour.

Insane Clown Posse, The Mighty Death Pop! (Psychopathic) #89, 3,800 sold
The mighty death drop (in sales)!

Halestorm, The Strange Case Of… (Atlantic) #96, 3,500 sold
A strange case of barely moving from last week.

Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist (Prospect Park) #102, 3,400 sold
Band members Ivan Moody and Chris Kael were recently featured on Headbangers Ball.

Slipknot, Antennas From Hell (Roadrunner) #120, 2,700 sold
50,000 copies of a greatest hits album in less than two months is hella good.

Pierce The Veil, Collide With the Sky (Fearless) #158, 2,200 sold
57,000 copies sold in two months – not bad for a band that’s not named Slipknot.

Hellyeah, Band of Brothers (Eleven Seven) #196, 1,800 sold
Further proof that Vinnie Paul refuses to just let things die.

Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) 1,800 sold
This album’s on the charts for the 95th (!) consecutive week.

Katatonia, Dead End Kings (Peaceville) 1,200
Fun fact: Silje Wergeland from The Gathering is a guest vocalist on the album. Not that we expect you to know who that is.

Otherwise, True Love Never Dies (Century Media) 650 sold
What’s the metal alternative to a cricket chirp?
Texas Hippie Coalition, Peacemaker (Carved) 640 sold
The band’s style has apparently been dubbed  “red dirt metal”. Just one more random thing for which Texas is known.
Gillan & Iommi, Who Cares (EarMusic) 410 sold.
Ever wondered what “Smoke on the Water” would sound like sung by the late Ronnie James Dio? In a word: Godly.
Kill Devil Hill, Kill Devil Hill (Stealhammer) 380 sold
A nice 40% jump from last week. That might have something to do with the New York area show they played last week.
The Last Vegas, Bad Decisions (Frostbyte) 340 sold
The band are heading out on tour for September.

Kreator, Phantom Antichrist (Nuclear Blast) 340 sold
With the Teutonic Thrash tour underway, Kreator have experienced a small boost in sales.

I Am War, Outlive You All (Razor & Tie) 320 sold
Doesn’t look like this album will outlive everyone after all.

Nile, At the Gate of Sethu (Nuclear Blast) 290 sold
This album has been at the gates of dropping off the charts completely for a while now.
