Last week, DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara revealed that his sister Kerri had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Rather than simply stand by, though, Fafara has made it clear that he is making an effort to help his sister and her family with their coming medical expenses by recording a benefit song.

The singer first made his intentions known last Friday (July 13) with the following tweet:

“NOT GONNA SIT & DO NOTHING WHILE MY SISTER FACES DOWN CANCER/ GONNA RECRUIT MUSICIAN FRIENDS /RECORD A SONG/ PUT IN ON ITUNES TO HELP HER KIDS & HELP WITH HER DOCTOR BILLS
STAY TUNED
WILL KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED
#FAMILYFIRST”

Fafara has already recruited a producer and handful of guest musicians for the track (though who exactly is still unclear). And last night (July 15), the frontman gave the following update via Twitter:

“OK I have a time table for my Sisters Song
Record and Finish B4 Aug 7
Mix Aug 7 Till ? Takes 6-7 Weeks to Load On to iTunes With the Code
In meantime setting up Charity Site with Kerri and will Launch around Song Release
MY SISTER HAS EXPRESSED HER GRATITUDE FOR ALL THE POSITIVE LIGHT BEING SENT HER WAY .

She`s a FIGHTER and Surrounded by caring Family. I`ll keep everyone Posted along the way ….

LOVE&LIGHT”

It goes without saying that any form of cancer takes its toll on anyone and their families. We hope for the best for Kerri and know that will gladly contribute once Dez releases said song. Knowing how dedicated DevilDriver fans are, we’re sure they won’t hesitate to help out as well.
