Last we heard, Slayer were hoping to enter the studio around March or April to record their follow up to 2009’s World Painted Blood. And in a recent interview The Nervous Breakdown, drummer Dave Lombardo revealed that fans can expect to hear new material in the form of an album AND an EP.

When asked when the new album might see the light of day, Lombardo responded with the following:

“I don’t know, but we’re going to do a three or four-song EP to keep the fans pacified until we come out with the full-length record. Kind of like what we did with ‘Psycopathy Red,’ which was like a two-song 45.”

Lombardo also confirmed that Slayer have nine songs written for the new album. Nothing else about the album and EP’s release have been revealed yet. However, it’s safe to assume two things: 1) whatever appears on the EP will eventually end up on the album, and 2) the EP could be released to coincide with their Summer touring plans (namely Mayhem Fest). Either way, it’s exciting to know that we’ll most likely get to hear new music from Slayer pretty soon.
