Last November, drummer Dave Lombardo revealed that Slayer have started to write material for their follow up to 2009’s World Painted Blood. And in multiple interviews recently, guitarist Kerry King has given more updates that will surely please fans. While attending Zakk Wylde’s Rock And Roll Roast last month, King shared a potential timeline for recording with Artisan News. In that interview (video of which can be seen above), King says that the band is hoping to enter the studio in March or April so that they can record material before heading to Europe in the end of May.

This comes shortly after King also gave juicy updates to the UK’s Metal Hammer. In the interview, King calls the three songs he’s worked on with Lombardo already “refreshing and energetic.” King also confirmed that guitarist Jeff Hanneman (who has been sitting out of the band’s live commitments due to a nasty spider bit) will still be heavily involved with the writing sessions, though is still slowly recovering and isn’t ready to hop on the stage for a full set just yet. In addition to the proposed recording timeline, King says that Slayer are also hoping to work with producer Greg Fidelman (time permitting).

Seeing that they’re hoping to record the album relatively fast, there’s a strong chance we can hear new Slayer material this Summer live (maybe even during their set at Mayhem Fest). Anyone afraid that Slayer’s speed recording might not produce good results, though, has no need to worry. “One thing I can tell you is that the songs are shaping up in the classic Slayer style. You won’t be hearing us doing acoustic stuff,” King laughingly said to Metal Hammer.
