Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Brazil’s Paradise In Flames as they discuss how their dog enjoys fast music.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
Hi everyone. I’m Opus Mortis from Paradise in Flames and my pet name is Floki, a big dog I adopted in 2019.
Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
It’s impossible to bring him because he’s huge and nervous. Before being adopted Floki suffered mistreatment and he had a health problem which compromised his mind, becoming a docile dog with few people. The stress of traveling could lead to his death, so I would never take him on tour.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
My son, my mother and his vet.
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
He loves to listen classic music, and one of his favorite songs is the William Tell Overture. He loves playing, running and listening that. In metal, he listens to everything together with me, so l think maybe some thrash metal, some power metal, some viking metal. He likes so much lively and fast songs.
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
Since I held him in my arms, when he came to my house.
What animal charity means most to you?
I work with that. I’m an environmental engineer at my city’s city hall and we created the project “Bem Estar Animal” (means something like animal welfare) where we hold countless responsible adoption fairs, as well as other actions for the protection and well-being of animals in general, supporting NGOs, animal protectors, distributing food, carrying out castration efforts. That’s how I found Floki. It’s a challenging and big project, because where I live, people abandon many animals, especially sick elderly people and puppies.
