Jack Black has confirmed that Tenacious D will return after a temporary hiatus following an onstage joke by bandmate Kyle Gass. Speaking to Variety, Black reassured fans that the duo will be back after taking a necessary break, stating:
“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime. And we’ll be back.”
Asked if he’s talked to Gass since the tour’s cancellation:
“Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”
During a show in Sydney, Australia, on July 14th, Gass made a controversial joke about a failed assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump, leading to online backlash. Both Gass and Black issued apologies on July 16th. Gass later deleted his apology from social media, while Black expressed his disapproval of the joke and announced the band’s hiatus.
