Seattle rockers Moon Fever aim to deliver “soulful rock ‘n’ roll anthems,” drawing great influence from bands like Queens of the Stone Age and the broader Seattle music scene. Recently, the band released a music video for their anthemic tune “Getting Loud” and most recently announced they will be joining Steel Panther on the road for their December tour. Metal Insider caught up with guitarist Mitch Micoley to learn more about the project, discuss lineup changes, and explore the overall future of Moon Fever.
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song “Getting Loud” and its music video?
Sonically, it came like lightning in a bottle. I originally came up with it in a grimy studio in downtown Los Angeles near skid row. Lyrically to me – the lyrics were written by Triston (Bracht) – it means that we all go through things and hold them inside until they eventually come out. To me personally, this song is a release of those emotions and thoughts.
How would you describe Moon Fever’s sound and musical style to someone who hasn’t heard your music before?
I always talk about it as energetic and upbeat as well as sometimes gloomy modern rock. I may be biased, but I like to feel that modern rock still has something to say and that is what we always go for.
What were the key influences and bands that shaped Moon Fever’s musical direction?
Queens of the Stone Age was one of the first bands that I heard that made me want to do music for the rest of my life. They are an influence to all of us in Moon Fever. I would also say the city of Seattle – where I currently live- has made an appearance in the songs and been an overall influence on the band. With the history of that city on music, how could you not be influenced?
What sets Moon Fever apart from other bands in the Seattle music scene?
To be honest, we’re not reinventing the wheel, but we definitely have our own interpretation of it. That is something we consciously work for. We try to make it so that when you hear Moon Fever, you definitely know it’s us.
Moon Fever’s lineup has evolved over the years. How has the addition of vocalist Triston Bracht impacted the band’s dynamic and sound?
Triston was instantly the right man for the band. As soon as he started singing in the first session, it was instant magic. We knew we had something special, and his voice helped shape the tone of the songs and gave us an expanded direction to explore the music.
What can fans expect from Moon Fever in the near future, and are there any upcoming info you can reveal?
We are definitely going to be touring and spreading the music of Moon Fever to as many people as we can. You can definitely expect some more North American dates. We will be doing some December dates with Steel Panther which should be a blast. You can definitely expect new songs and wild live shows.
How do you hope your music impacts and resonates with your listeners?
Hopefully, our music is an escape from reality for the listeners. The things we write music about are things we can all relate to. Also, we want you to do some dancing because music is supposed to be fun.
