Last year, Metal Insider was proud to be a sponsor of NARM’s Metal Meetup at their 2010 convention in Chicago. We’ll be back again at this year’s convention, which is taking place in Los Angeles from May 9-12 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. NARM (which stands for the National Association of Retailers and Merchants) is a group of music retailers and wholesalers, and their convention is a great way to learn about how the music industry works and the issues effecting it.
Once again, I’ll be representing the site and appearing on this year’s Metal Meetup, taking place on Wednesday May 11 at 3:30PM. This year’s panel looks to be a good one, and here’s who will be on it this year:
Moderator: Brian Slagel, President Metal Blade Records
Panelists:
Mike Gitter, A&R, Century Media Records
Jackie Kajzer, developer and host, Full Metal Jackie
Wayne Pighini, head of marketing, Vagrant Records
Bram Teitelman, editor, Metal Insider
In addition, within the convention will be the NARM/A2IM Music Business Crash Course. This will take place on may 9th and 10th, and will cover a variety of topics relevant to both artists and label types. Topics include touring, an artist/producer panel called “What I Wish I Had Known and What To Watch Out For,” direct to fan and e-mail marketing, and social networks and traditional promotion. In short, it’s a must-attend for any musicians, independent labels, or managers looking to gain knowledge of the industry in a constantly-changing landscape. And it’s only $49 to register for students or musicians.
To get in with the reduced price for the Crash Course, which will also enable you to attend the Metal Meetup, when registering, put in the code CC-HORNS, which will take $70 off the $119 fee, for only $49. You’ll get a wristband when checking in that will allow you to attend both the Crash Course and Metal Meetup.
