Iron Maiden surprised us last week with a brand new single “The Writing on the Wall.” As discussed in a recent Metal Insider Headbangers’ Brawl, the track will take a few listens before fully enjoying the new track. Frontman Bruce Dickinson recently discussed this song to U.K.’s Kerrang!, revealing the video was inspired by Rammstein’s “Deutschland” music video.

Dickinson explained:

“I said to Rod [Smallwood], ‘Have you seen the video for ‘Deutschland’ by Rammstein? That, to me, is a groundbreaking video. That’s astonishing. Now, I’m not suggesting we do that, because we’re not Rammstein. But think of what we could do that would have the equivalent impact for us. So, I wrote a storyboard for the vid, tweaked it a little bit, and gave it a happy ending. Well, kind of a happy ending — Adam and Eve start again, but with Eddie going, ‘I’ll still get you in the end.'”

“The Writing on the Wall” is the first single taken from the group’s first full-length album and overall 17th studio effort, Senjutsu, which will be released on September 3rd via BMG. Pre-orders are available at this location
