Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Carnivora guitarist Cody Michaud as he’s been spending this time working on their new single, “Witch City.”

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

We just released a new single called “Witch City” and preparing for that has made the time fly over the last couple months. Outside of that, we’ve actually been writing a ton of new music. Like most bands, we lost tours that were scheduled during the first few months of quarantine so we wanted to make the time productive in other ways. The juices started flowing right away and now we have something like 6 or 7 new songs.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I’ve personally been digging the new Pallbearer, Kataklysm, and Good Tiger singles, as well as the new Trivium record. A lot of bands have had killer releases since everything shut down and that’s made it easier to deal with all the negativity in the current state of things. Carnivora also put together a Spotify playlist of sick tracks from the bands that influence us, so I heavily recommend checking that out.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I started off really strong with cooking when quarantine first started. I was doing a lot of stir fries and quesadillas, just fun and easy stuff like that. But I live downtown Salem, MA and we have a million kickass restaurants around so more recently I got back on the takeout train and have been eating everything imaginable.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I’ve kept up with a few podcasts to stay busy, mostly music industry stuff. The Ex-Man with Doc Coyle and No F’n Regrets with Robb Flynn are two that I love which always offer a rad inside look at band life and all things surrounding it. Myself, Dan (drums), and Meehan (guitar) have also been tuning into Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse stream together, which they have going around the clock every day. Ultimate win.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Always listen to new music, riffs are good for your health and Carnivora is serving them up hot for you. Also, stay active and try to take advantage of this time instead of waiting around for things to go back to normal. Things are weird, no doubt, but quarantine has presented a pretty unique opportunity for a lot of us to hit the reset button and work on anything we want. I hope people can channel some positivity that way instead of getting lost in the craziness of it all.
