Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has been announced as a “special guest” for the final North American leg of Kiss’ End Of The Road farewell tour. This will be Roth’s first solo tour in 13 years.
“David Lee Roth will bring his exciting stage show featuring a twin guitar big rock sound and a set list of classic hits,” reads a statement made on the Kiss website.
The Kiss tour will be broken up into two sections with the first starting February 1 at Manchester, NH’s SNHU Arena and running through March 15 at Biloxi, MS’ Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It then picks up again on August 28 at Burgettstown, PA’s KeyBank Pavilion and run through October 2 at Fort Worth, TX’s Dickies Arena.
Roth last toured as a solo artist in 2006. He stopped following his reunion with Van Halen in 2007, though the band has been inactive since 2015.
These new dates are in addition to Roth’s previously announced Las Vegas residency. Those shows will take place January 8-11 and March 18, 20-21, 25 & 27-28 at the House of Blues. According to Rolling Stone, these shows will be “packed with Van Halen classics” performed in a new way. Says Roth:
“I wrote these songs, I structured these songs. We bring the respect and dignity to what we are doing the same way that the Lincoln Center brings to the Beethoven Festival with the latest Philharmonic. It’s a new orchestra, and a whole new sound.” In an separate interview with Van Halen News Desk (as reported by Blabbermouth), he elaborated further, “We do not sound like Van Halen live. You have not heard this. Van Halen live is lead guitar, bass, drums, sing. Here, we bring it the way a record brings it. To do that requires two or three guitars. We have five people hollerin’. It’s a big rock sound. It’s not [1985’s] ‘Just A Gigolo’. It’s not brass band. That was a quickie vacation.”
In addition to the two-part North American run, Kiss will be on tour throughout South America, Europe and South Africa (without Roth) in 2020. That tour will take place from April through July and count appearances at Download Festival in the UK, Copenhell Festival in Denmark and Rockfest in Spain among its dates. The band’s final show will take place July 17, 2021 at an as-yet undisclosed venue in New York City, where they originally hail from.
All tour dates for David Lee Roth can be found on his website, while all Kiss dates can be found on their site. Tickets to all shows (sans New York) are on sale now.
