Guitarist Kim Thayil teased fans that the newly reunited Soundgarden has been jamming on new music. But with their newly announce live album set to be released, and with Chris Cornell’s upcoming acoustic solo tour planned for this Spring, we figured that any new plans for Soundgarden (both referring to new music and more shows) would be put on hold for a while. Well, we guessed wrong.

Out of the blue this afternoon, the band posted the following message on their website and Facebook page:

“Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!

Loudest of Love,
Ben, Chris, Kim and Matt”

So there you have it, new Soundgarden music is officially on the way. There’s no indication of when said new songs will be released (or if it’s even going to be released in an album format), but it might not be as long of a wait as we previously expected. Now if we can only get them to work on playing a few more shows in the States… We’ll keep you updated when more is revealed.
