Last week, Killswitch Engage shared a few teasers on dropping the new single “Unelased,” at some point today (25th). The band has more than kept their promise as not only did they unveil the new song, they also announced their overall eighth studio album Atonement will be released on August 16th via Metal Blade Records. The group has worked on the follow-up to 2016’s Incarnate since 2017 as they recorded most of the material separately on both coasts. Unfortunately, the band had a major setback last year due to a polyp developed scar tissue in frontman Jesse Leach’s throat, which forced the band to cancel seven tour dates as Leach underwent surgery followed by a three-month recovery process. This challenge of course made the group grow stronger and you can hear it in their new single “Unleashed.”

Leach commented on the track:

“‘Unleashed’ is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface. We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within. I feel we were able to capture something raw and intense on this song and I’m stoked for everyone to hear it! The new album Atonement is a reflection of perseverance and passion through the trials and suffering of our existence.”

The illustration for the Atonement cover was created by UK based artist Richey Beckett (Metallica, Mastodon) as the group’s Mike D’Antonio handled the art direction and layout duties.
