Last Thursday’s Ghost show should have been a joyous affair. On the eve of Prequelle‘s release, they were playing a sold-out show in Milwaukee to be followed by an in-store where fans could purchase the album. However, they cut the show short and cancelled the in-store after Jeffrey Fortune, a Ghost fan, died of natural causes, at the show. And while that’s sad and tragic, at least the 52 year-old passed while doing what he loved.
And there’s a silver lining to the story, in that Ghost fans started a kickstarter to raise funds for Fortune’s family. According to the page, Fortune was a huge music fan, and a handful of Ghost fan pages on Facebook banded together to help. As of press time, nearly $7,100 had been raised for his family, much more than the $1,000 they’d initially sought. It’s a heartwarming coda to a heartbreaking story, and speaks to the generosity of music fans. If you feel so inclined.
