Being an adult is exhausting, redundant, and frustrating. Let’s face it, there are more people who prefer staying at home to blast some tunes, play with their pets or an online dating app while consuming alcohol instead of sitting in an office cubicle. Unfortunately, this is what we have to do to afford concerts. This past January, we were excited when we heard about Aggretsuko, a new character created by Hello Kitty masterminds Sanrio to join that universe.
Aggrestsuko’s alter ego is Retsuko, a 25-year-old red panda who works as an office associate in the accounting department of a trading company in Tokyo. In order to control her frustrations in the office, she enters her ‘rage mode’ and takes her aggression out by death metal karaoke. This makes us wish we could have a death metal karaoke booth in our office to help with our everyday irritations. And while we can’t do that, we’ll be able to watch her on Netflix, as the company has signed a global deal to develop an animated series around her
The Aggretsuko series will be released globally via Netflix. It was produced by Fanworks and was originally created by Sanrio. That’s right, during the spring of 2018, we will see ten 15-minute episodes that will follow this tiny angry red-panda through her daily distress as she juggles with politics in the office along with figuring out a healthy work/life balance.
Rob Roy, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Netflix commented:
“Aggretsuko may be a uniquely Japanese show, but the frustration it taps into—not to mention the joy of venting—is universal. We’re excited to partner with Sanrio in bringing it to a global audience.”
